The Society for Cultural Anthropology (SCA), a section of the American Anthropological Association, was founded in 1983. The SCA promotes scholarship and scholarly communication about cultural studies and culture theory broadly conceived.  SCA also aims to connect cultural anthropology with scholars in such other disciplines as history, literature, philosophy, and science studies.

Membership in SCA includes a subscription to Cultural Anthropology, a quarterly journal devoted to the study of culture as it is developing in anthropology and all other relevant disciplines.

Welcoming a wide range of styles and argument, the Bateson Prize looks to reward work that is theoretically rich, ethnographically grounded, and in the spirit of the tradition for which the SCA has been known—interdisciplinary, experimental, and innovative. Entries are due by May 1, 2009.
